Our tentative itinerary follows.
Day 1 – Arrive
Welcome to Provence!
Today you will arrive in Avignon. You will settle, rest and explore the neighborhood.
Avignon Hotel: Auberge de Cassagne & Spa

Day 2 – Full Day Driving Tour – Avignon & Pont du Gard
Today you will begin your discovery of Provence in Avignon. Avignon, for some time capital of Christendom in the Middle Ages, retains the indelible mark of its grandiose destiny : the palais des papes (palace of the popes), the Saint-Benezet brigde, called the pont d’Avignon of worldwide fame through its commemoration by the song, and the ramparts constitute an exceptional complex of monuments listed by UNESCO as World Heritage sites. In addition dozens of churches and chapels, all remains of a past rich in history give the city its unique atmosphere.
Birthplace of the prestigious festival of contemporary theatre, European Capital of Culture in 2000, Avignon also has many museums, an opera house / theatre, an exhibition hall and a congress center with installations on the cutting edge of technology located within the outstanding premises of the Palais des Papes.
You will also discover the Pont du Gard, an aqueduct that impressively bridges the River Gard. Still intact, three tiers of stone arches tower more than 36 meters across the valley. Built by Roman engineers about 20 B.C. as part of a 50-kilometer-long system bringing water from Uzès to Nîmes, the aqueduct remains one of the world’s marvels. Park in the car park amid the tourist stalls and food stands and walk a pedestrian road to the span of river that thankfully lies uncluttered, dominated only by the impact and shadow of the towering structure.
Consider having lunch at Les Terrasses Restaurant at Pont du Gard.

Day 3 – Travel to St Rémy + Full Day Driving Tour – Les Alpilles
Your private guide will meet you at your hotel and take you to your hotel in St Rémy.
You will start the day with a tour of St Rémy de Provence St Rémy de Provence a particularly interesting town because of its typical architecture: an old center with quaint 17th and 18th century houses and narrow cobblestone streets, surrounded with ramparts, around which is a circular boulevard planted with plane trees (sycamores of Provence), immortalized by Van Gogh.
You will then take the roads of the Alpilles valley the olives have been cultivated since the time of Ancient Greece.

You will then arrive in the village of Les Baux de Provence. This village is one of the most photogenic hill towns in Provence & has a very rich architectural heritage which you will discover while wandering through its narrow cobbled streets. The view of the valley is quite unique – a silvery blue sea of olive trees.
Continue on to Eygalières where you will see the Saint Sixte Chapel. Built in the 12th century on the top of a rocky hill, this Roman chapel is quite simple. You will have a lovely view over Eygalieres and the surrounding hills.
If time permits, you will make a stop at Saint-Paul de Mausole, the clinic into which Van Gogh was taken on May 8, 1889. He found the quality of light and the ardent beauty of the landscapes around Saint Rémy quite fascinating. The beauty of the surroundings and the pleasure in finding a serene and understanding atmosphere surrounded by the nuns and the personnel who took him in were such that, in the space of a year, he had completed more than 150 paintings and numerous sketches.
St Rémy Hotel: Hotel L’Image
